Damon E. Burns
Damon Burns is a New Orleans native and public finance professional with more than 10 years of experience in entrepreneurship, investment banking, corporate banking and economic development.
Prior to joining The Finance Authority of New Orleans, he founded Munivestor, a financial data and technology company focused on the municipal bond industry, with $200K in private investor capital. Munivestor was selected to participate in some of the nation’s premier startup programs including Techstars’ Risingstars Bootcamp, Morgan Stanley’s FinTech Investor Showcase and PowerMoves NOLA.
Burns also spent 6 years as a public finance investment banker with Raymond James|Morgan Keegan where he led over $1 billion in public and private transactions for issuers such as The Finance Authority of New Orleans, City of New Orleans and Orleans Parish School Board. RJ|MK named him the 2012 National Banker of the Year for his production. He was also a member of the company’s National Housing Group.
In 2011, Damon became an Investment Committee member of the New Orleans Startup Fund, which provides early stage capital to New Orleans based companies with high-growth potential. After being exposed to the startup investment business with NOSF, he co-founded inNOLAvation with a group of minority entrepreneurs in search of investment capital. Since inception, the group has provided over $50,000 in resources to minority entrepreneurs attempting to build scalable businesses that create quality jobs for the local economy.
Before entering in public finance in 2007, he was a credit analyst with Comerica Bank in Houston, Texas where he underwrote small business loans for companies serving a variety of industries. In a mission to return home post-Katrina, he was hired as Program Manager for Louisiana Economic Development’s $75 million Hurricane Katrina Small Business Recovery Fund.
Community and civic service includes serving as a board member to various local organizations including Canal Street Development Corp, St. Augustine High School, City of New Orleans Tax Commission and former member of the Historic District Landmarks Commission.
Burns earned a Marketing degree from Texas Southern University and an MBA with a finance concentration from the University of New Orleans. He also earned a professional certificate in Urban Redevelopment from the University of Pennsylvania.
